Has Barney Nearly Become the Main Character?

"Dad, when are you going to tell us about our mother?" "Oh... you see... I couldn't ignore those legendary Barney stories now, could I?"

A few days ago, when I was lying in bed waiting for my brain to give me a break and let me fall asleep, I thought about what some fans have considered: that How I Met Your Mother is now really about Barney and his story. The latest seasons have indeed given more story time for Barney, and in many cases less for Ted, the main character of the show. But could we go so far as to say that Barney is close to, if not already has, becoming the main character?

The Best Moments of Season 1

Whether They Were Funny, Sad or Just Plain Important, These Are the Best Moments From Season 1 (IMO)

In December I received an awesome Christmas present: season 1 of How I Met Your Mother on DVD. Just mere days before the jolly day, I had watched the season 8 double-episode 'The Final Page' and afterwards thought, ".... now I really want to watch the beginning of HIMYM again!" Why? Because I wanted to look back on this legendary series and point out how far we have come. Also, there were moments in the season that were worth seeing again.

Why Was the Mother Standing in the Rain?

Why Didn't the Mother Just Stand Under the Shelter Instead of Waiting in the Rain in 'Farhampton'?

I was watching the episode 'Farhampton' (S8X01) on TV last night and I wondered about this question. I've also seen this question asked occasionally around the internet. Why would the Mother just wait in the rain when she could be under cover just a couple of metres away? For some of you this might be an unnecessary and probably silly question to ask, but there's no new episode today to talk about so I may as well discuss this.

Any Future Kids Named After Someone in the Gang?

Is it Possible that Any Kids Born in the Future Could be Named After Someone in the Gang? I Think it is, if Only Slightly.

As we all know, the gang are a very tight group of friends - they refer to themselves as family (Lily and Marshall even chose the rest of the gang to be Marvin Waitforit's godparents [S8X03]). They have had their little troubles and disagreements, but their BFF bond always brought them back together. So I thought, "Is it at all possible that any future kids will be named after one of these friends?" It doesn't have to be for a first name: it could be a middle name even. So here are the scenarios I rate from most likely to least likely.

'Pilot': Writers' Second Draft

Look It Up. You'll Find the Second Draft for HIMYM's First Episode

So I was bored a couple of days ago, doing some random Google searches, when I stumbled upon a PDF of the pilot's second draft script on dailyscript.com, and I noticed quite a few different and interesting things in it. I thought I might list those things for the people who haven't come across it yet but curious to find out how the writers thought it out and what didn't end up in the final cut of the How I Met Your Mother pilot. Or if you want to check it out for yourself: http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/How_I_Met_Your_Mother_--_Pilot.pdf

Why Barney and Robin Are Not Parenting Material

Besides the Obvious Reason

I'm certain that, eventually, Barney and Robin will come to terms with one important issue: kids. I'm not sure when: it could crop up within the next few episodes, or be left unresolved until their wedding day (which might be the reason why Robin is freaking out on that day, I'm not sure). I used to read all about upcoming episodes so I knew what to expect, but this year I've decided to avoid that to avoid spoilers; so maybe some article somewhere in the internet-verse confirms when the issue will come up and you might know, dear reader, but I do not. But, when it comes up is not the topic of this post today.

I'm talking about the issue itself. Now I know many of you, as soon as you read the title, have already concluded that it's because Robin's infertile. I know that, and it confirms that Barney and Robin will never have kids. But as a matter of interest, I want to ignore that fact and find more reasons why Barney and Robin are not parenting material.

In Marshall's Defense

Why Would Marshall Tell Ted to Go After Robin When He and Lily thought Barney/Robin Were Perfect in the Past?

Lots of fans were confused in "The Final Page: Part 2" when Marshall, instead of advising Ted to tell Robin that Barney's proposing to Patrice, told him to be selfish and not tell her. He seemed to believe that the chance of Ted ending up with Robin hasn't died yet. But why would he suddenly say this when he told Barney in Season 4 that he and Lily thought Barney and Robin were perfect for each other?

Why Barney's Relationships with Robin, Nora and Quinn Didn't Work in the Past

They're the Only Girls Barney's Dated Post-Operation-Suit-Up, and There's a Pattern to All of This

Now that Barney's back with Robin (and for real), I would like to take a moment to think back to when he had dated other women. The two that come to mind are Nora and Quinn (Shannon's hardly worth mentioning, we know what went wrong), and Barney had been quite serious with these relationships (and breaking many of his rules along the way, like meeting Nora's parents and planning marriage to Quinn). So what exactly went wrong? For me, I see a pattern in these relationships and I'm going to break it down to pinpoint the flaws in each one.

'The Final Page'

Barney's last proposal was just magical. This one was LEGEN.... wait for it... DARY!
